Top 5 Yugioh Monster Archetypes Part 2

Here is the second part of the top five Yugioh Monster Archetypes. Hope you like it!

3. Aliens

Strengths

Duffer’s choice of running an Alien deck intrigued me enough to do some more research about the archetype. They are one of the most underrated archetypes, but if you play them right the Aliens can be extremely dangerous. The focus of this archetype is to equip the opponent’s monsters with Alien Counters. Monsters equipped with ‘A-Counters’ are effect in negative ways, for example they lose 300 attack and defense points during battle calculation. Alien monsters are similar to a chess pieces. There are weaker monsters (pawns) that focus on distracting and penetrating through defenses by equipping A-Counters (Alien Dog). Then there are higher-ups (bishops, knights, and castles) that apply damaging effects on the foe’s A-Monsters (Alien Mars). Finally, there are the king and queen, in this archetype, Mystic Fortress Gol’gar and Cosmic Horror Gangi’el (they aren’t Alien monsters but are used in every Alien deck that they are considered to be part of the archetype). What I’m trying to say is that the Aliens are a very structured archetype that utilizes the powers of each and every member of the team. Their functionality makes Aliens an archetype that can destroy opponents with ease.

Weaknesses

Because they were recently being mainstreamed, Aliens don’t have a good amount of support yet. There are some spells and traps that apply only to Aliens (Code A Ruins, Planet Pollutant Virus, etc…) but it’s not a big amount. Because they don’t have a great amount of support, Aliens are very prone in close, low-card situations.

2. Infernities

Strengths

Infernities are one of the star archetypes of the 2010 meta. With the introduction of Kalin Kiryu in Yugioh 5Ds, Konami decided they just had to create Infernity cards due to Kalin’s rise in popularity. Like their winged-beast counterparts the Blackwings,Infernities are pretty good swarming archetype as well. They are a very flexible archetype for their decks can mesh other types of monsters such as the Dark World monsters and (especially) Zombie type monsters. Infernity decks are great for Instant Synchro Summons thanks to cards like Infernity Launcher and Infernity Necromancer. There are a few OTK opportunities in an Infernity deck as well. The biggest reason for the Infernities popularity is the fact they are more powerful when there is little-to-no cards in the user’s hand. Thus, instead of worrying about discarding your cards to the grave, or playing to many spells and traps, having an Infernity deck gives you relief because by doing that, you are just opening a door to more combos and strategies.

Weaknesses

Another deck that would be killed by Consecrated Light. The Infernities have very little spell and trap card support compared to other meta decks. Because they are so reliant on having no hand, cards like Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier and Penguin Soldier could instantly halt a developing Infernity combo. In an Infernity deck, players are too reliant on special summoning Infernity monsters and stocking them in the graveyard. This Infernity characteristic makes it very easy to form an Anti-Infernity deck (a D.D. deck or a deck that revolves around cards like Royal Oppression/Special Hurricane, etc..). Though an Infernity deck is mighty, Infernities are at their full potential when meshed with similar archetypes (zombies, Dark World).

Hope you liked the list! Stay tune for the the strongest monster arcehtype in Yugioh! (Though you’ve probably guessed it anyways…)

  1. Hmm, I’ve actually never played against Ojamas, they seem like a deck for beginner/intermediate duelists.

  2. Javier says:

@Yugiohblogger believe me, they are powerful.

  3. nader says:

i thought that too, but ojama king is good

  4. Javier says:

A good, thought through, Ojama deck that is built for attacking fast, can FTK many times. But an Ojama deck that can do that takes thought because the possibilities that an Ojama deck has are endless, since you can use all the Ojama Support cards and you can use cards like Instant Fusion, Revoke Fusion, Polymerization, Summoner of Illusions, but you can also run many tuners because they are very easy to synchro with, you can run Wicked gods, or Obelisk, or Arcana force Ex’s because they are very easy to use for tributes, you can use the Lockdown strategy which consists on getting Ojama King out, then you use Ground Collapse or Ojama Knight, and you can also use cards like Ojamuscle (which I personally don’t like) or just use Ojama Country to boost Ojama King up to 3000 Attack, if you run that type of lockdown deck, I would use some Zing Xen Hus and I would use mage powers so that you can otk with him. You can also make an Ojama Delta Hurricane deck/ Big March of Animals OTK/FTK which is what I personally use combining both Tuners and Fusion-based cards. You can use a Defender Beatdown Ojama deck, which uses cards like Big shield gardna, Destiny Hero Defender, Gear Golem of The Moving Fortress, and all those high defense cards and take advantage of ojama country to switch their attacks. There are more strategies which is why I love ojamas.

  5. Javier says:

But of all, Ojamas are mostly a deck that is fun to use and losing with it isn’t bad because its just a funny/fun deck.

  6. nader says:

ojamas are better than some other archetype decks. there are far worse decks and archetypes out there. anyways, i’ve made an earthbound immortal deck a couple weeks ago and surprisingly it was very competitive. a good hand probably? i typically tought that an earthbound immortal deck wouldn’t do as great as other decks but yeah. although really uru, aslla piscu, and chacu challhua were the only ones worth getting out.

  7. Javier says:

If you run DDT’s and stalling cards like Mystic Tomatoes, UFO Turtles, Giant Germ, Peten the dark clowns, and even gadgets(ultimate offering) then getting those out is pretty easy. The problem is protecting that Field Spell thats why I don’t run Earthbounds, usually people have 1 dust tornado, 1 mst, 1 Heavy Storm and maybe a Giant Trunade, which is quite troublesome.

  8. nader says:

i think that hardened armed dragon would help the earthbounds out. plus a nice addition of not being destroyed by card effects for them. well im glad that earthbound immortals have stuff like whirlwind to make them (close) to invincible. you know, they were alot more powerful in the anime version.

  9. Earrthbounds only seem to be strong because of the endless amounts of broken and unrealistic cards they use in Yugioh.
