Psychic Monsters

Psychic monsters are a pretty old monster type, however I have recently had an interest in them! Yesterday, I was going to get the new Mockingjay book at the library when I saw some guys dueling at the youth section of the library. One of the duelists was using a Blackwing deck (surprise, surprise) and the other was using a Psychic deck! The duel had just begun and they let me watch the match. I thought the Blackwing deck would just destroy the Psychic but it was a surprisingly close duel (with Blackwings being the victor). I’ve been fascinated with Psychic ever since yesterday!

Psychic are a cool archetype that focus on a variety of things such as swarming, burn damage, and especially life point manipulation. Because of their various strengths, Psychic monsters are very hard to predict and can cause havoc with their different effects (as I saw first hand in the duel against the Blackwings). A lot of Psychic monsters make the user take damage therefore it’s recommended that Psychic duelists have cards like Prime Material Dragon and Rainbow Life. Another good thing about Psychic monsters is that many of them are level four and below monsters, thus it’s easy to summon them and facilitate combos.

Psychics have a lot of good qualities about them, however my favorite aspect about the Psychics is their strong synchro monsters. Not only do Psychic monsters have strong synchros, they have a lot of them as well: Thought Ruler Archfiend, Hyper Psychic Blaster, Psychic Lifetrancer, Psychic Nightmare, Psychic Android, and then there are other other OCG synchros as well. Then, if you count Ultimate Axon Kicker and Hyper Pyschic Blaster A.M., there are A LOT of beatdown Psychic monsters.

Psychic monsters may not be the most popular monster type, and a Psychic deck may not be a Tier 1 deck, however Psychic monsters are still a type in development and I think that once they have enough support, they can be a deadly group of monsters. Even now, a full Psychic deck can compete with the best of them! I want to see a duel between Aliens and Psychics: Out of space creatures VS Mutants!

  1. psychics are so unique and good. glad it became a newer type. which card(s) made the blackwing player win?

  2. are you sure a lot of psychic monsters make the user take damage? I know some do but most seem to make you pay life points to me, in which case rainbow life and prime material dragon would be less useful.

  3. That’s why when using psychics, have PMD and the field card brain research lab. And then mst it. “take” a load of damage!!!
I have my own interest in psychic decks. I actually put them together and then sell them on eBay for about 80+ dollars. Psychic cards are low valued and easy to trade for. And for me, it’s easy money

  4. @morfowt
I think that’s Yugiohblogger means; a lot of Psychic monsters make you pay life points to use their effects, it’s the same thing as “taking damage.” Either way, Prime Material Dragon’s ability would work because life point damage (through an effect) is still being inflicted on the user.

  5. @duffer: pay life points =/= take damage. pay life points is a cost. prime material dragon cannot reverse costs, only damage.

chris’s combo of PMD and the field card would work however, as brain research lab negates the cost.

Telekinetic charging cell is also useful. an equipped psychic doesn’t need to pay costs to activate its effect.

This isn’t my final build, just what i have together as of now. im play testing using more copies of lady ninja yae and a play set of solemn warnings and a judgment. I still have some balance of cards ideas to adjust, but lemme know what you think! R/F please.

  7. do you think that fabled dianaira is going to be any good in a fabled deck? it seems situational. i already collected things like ganashia, chawa, ragin, raven, soulkius, grimro, gallabas, cerburrel, leviathan, unicore, kudabbi, lurrie, catsith, kushano, valkyrus, krus too many cards….

  8. I tried apex avian, but to no success could make a version of the deck that included it and dark simorgh. I tried though. It just seemed that there were too many costly moves to make to consistently bring it out within turn 2. Dark simorgh on the other hand is a much easier task. And the valleys serve as wind support and “bounce back” specialty. It really is a fun deck 🙂

  9. do you guys still use dekoichi the battlechanted locomotive for drawing power now? cause so many people use it and is splashable. i still use it.

  10. its the only good drawing power card really with des lacooda. the rest of them either involve costs or are banned

  12. It’s pretty good however I recommend you had a few more Psychic monsters, a Brain Research Lab, Telekinetic Power Walls (for swarming), a Hyper Psychic Blaster A.M., and an Ultimate Axon Kicker.

  13. I say psychics are good, but its kinda hard to make them good, you have to have a lot of the good/expensive cards which are a pain to get cause most cost like 6 bucks, Also another great archetype that just fascinated me a bit ago, are Fortune Ladies, they have really powerful techniques and although they don’t look like it, they are fast! what you do is something like Reasoning or something like that, and say you mill a bunch of monsters, then you play future visions and summon light, light is removed from play, it gets you dark, dark destroys a monster, and you special summon, lets say another dark that you milled, then the other dark destroys another monster, and guess what now you special summon 2 more, and say you special an earth and a water, water makes you draw 2 cards and earth is a 2500 attack beatstick!!! so its very fast, you just drew 2 new cards which could be something like fortunes future, and you d.d. a fortune lady, and draw another two now you just got 4 new cards!!! super fast man. I want to make the deck so bad, right now I can get 2 fortune future and a few of the monsters, can anyone give me some tips on how many I should have in my deck of each?

  14. well I was thinking more an online community like yugiohnetwork.com, but depending on what a DS is like, maybe.

  15. that polar god support card gotterdammerung. i dont know if it looks good or bad. i’ve seen mixed feelings on that card.

  16. for fortune monsters use
    1 wind
    1 fire
    3 light
    3 dark
    3 water
    3 cyber valley
    2 solitare
    2 catobles and the witch
    3 cyber dragon
also the field spell usually hurts more than it helps use compulse and interdimentional matter transporter
