First of all, I would like to wish all of you’re a happy new year! Konami’s New Year is about to kick off with the upcoming release of the hyped booster pack, Cosmo Blazer. The official release date is in two weeks, on January 25th. Cosmo Blazer will be building on most of the archetypes introduced in Zexal. However, it also develops the Utopia archetype, with the release of numerous Zexal Weapon (ZW) monsters. Zexal Weapons, as talked about in a previous post I wrote, are powerful equip monsters for Number 39: Utopia and Number C39: Utopia Ray. Each Zexal Weapon gives Utopia a fairy significant power boost. However, only two Zexal Weapons have been released so far, but there are going to be four ZW monsters released with Cosmo Blazer. These monsters are going to make the Utopia archetype a group to be feared!
What makes these upcoming four ZW monsters improved from the previous two, ZW – Unicorn Spear and ZW – Phoenix, is that they can be equipped to Number 39: Utopia in addition to Utopia Ray. Out of the four new ZW monsters, three are effect monsters and one is a Xyz.
- ZW – Ultimate Shield provides Utopia monsters with a significant defensive boost of 2000 points. When it is summoned, Ultimate Shield can bring back a banished Xyz monster, an effect that can significantly change the game. That effect arguably makes Ultimate Shield the strongest of the effect ZW monsters.
- ZW – Tornado Bringer brings a perfect balance of offense and defense. Not only does can it give the Utopia monsters a solid 1300 attack point boost, but it prevents them from being targeted by spells, traps, and monster effects as well. These effects can be crucial in deciding a close duel.
- ZW – Lightning Blade does give the equipped monster a 1200 attack point boost, but it is primarily a defensive monster. Lightning Blade prevents other ZW monsters from being destroyed by card effects and if the equipped monster was to be destroyed, Lightning Blade can be destroyed instead. Lightning Blade is the most effective when other ZW monsters have already been equipped to the Utopia monsters.
Think about how overpowered the Utopia monsters can become with these three monsters equipped, since the Utopia monsters have powerful effects of their own. However, the source of the ultimate power-up for Utopia monsters comes from the fourth ZW monster – Lion Arms. ZW – Lion Arms is the Xyz monster and it requires any two level five material monsters (but the idea is, based on Lion Arms’ art that the level five Lightning Blade and Tornado Bringer are the material monsters). Lion Arms is a powerful monster by itself, with a hefty 3000 attack points. It can also be used to stack ZW monsters, as its effect allows the user to put a ZW monster in his/her hand, with the cost of a material monster from Lion Arms. When attached to a Utopia monster, Lion Arms gives it a boost of 3000 attack points! Plus, when the equipped monster attacks, you can send Lion Arms to the graveyard to give the equipped monster a second attack. Since Utopia and Utopia Ray have 2500 attack points, Lion Arms provides you with a one hit kill scenario.
ZW monsters are incredibly, but their only drawback is that they have little support as of now. Once support cards for the ZW monsters are released, then their combo with the Utopia monsters will be incredibly hard to stop.
