Top 10 Tuner Monsters in Yugioh Part 1

As I was contemplating on what post to write, I figured I should write another top 10, since I haven’t written one for some time. Then I realized that though I have written a top 10 synchro monster list, I have never written a top 10 tuner monster list despite their dominance in Yugioh. So, here are (in my opinion) the top 10 tuner monsters in Yugioh:

10. Dark Resonator

For some reason, I have a huge fetish with the ‘Resonator’ tuners. One of my decks on Yugioh Online is a Resonator deck where I swarm Resonators on to the field and synchro summon powered monsters with them. Anyways, the reason Dark Resonator is on this list is because it is a pretty powerful low-leveled tuner with 1300 attack points. Plus, once per turn Dark Resonator can negate its destruction through battle. Its effect allows you to stall to find the right synchro material monster you need. Plus, a synchro monster who was summoned with Dark Resonator gains 300 attack points.

9. D.D. Sprite

With no attack points and 100 defense points, D.D. Sprite may not look like much but it is a great tuner monster. You can remove one monster on your side from the field and special D.D. Sprite. That is huge because if you haven’t normal summoned that turn, you can use your normal summon to bring out a monster you can use to synchro summon. Also, the monster you removed from play to special summon D.D. Sprite returns your next standby phase, so if D.D. Sprite is still alive, you can synchro summon it with the returning monster. This is a very efficient monster and is amazing in D.D. decks.

8. Plaguespreader Zombie

Just like D.D. Sprite, Plaguespreader Zombie can also special summon itself, but you have to return one card from your hand to the top of your deck. Like I mentioned with D.D. Sprite, this is great because if you have not used your normal you can use it to play a monster that you can use as a synchro material monster. The reason I like Plaguespreader Zombie better than D.D. Sprite is because you can easily normal summon level four monsters, which in turn allows you to bring out level six synchro monsters (most notably, Goyo Guardian).

7. Blackwing – Gale the Whirlwind

Perhaps one of the best Blackwing tuners in the game, Blackwing – Gale the Whirlwind just had to be on this list. It can special summon itself when there are one or more Blackwing monsters on the owner’s field. This allows for instantaneous synchro summoning capabilities, as Blackwing monsters are so good at swarming monsters onto the field. Gale also has 1300 attack points and once per turn, it can halve the attack and defense points of one monster on the field! That effect allows it to destroy any monster with 2600 or lower attack points.

6. Mist Valley Soldier

Mist Valley Soldier is a great tuner monster. Not only is it a level four tuner, which when tuned with a level four monster (the most common monster level) allows you to synchro summon powerful level eight synchro monsters. Mist Valley has a pretty good attack stat with 1700 attack points, but its effect is stellar. It can return a monster back to the owner’s hand if it is not destroyed by battle after battling Mist Valley Soldier. That allows you to return extremely powerful cards, such as the Yubels that are not destroyed by battle, back to their owner’s hand which is clutch if those monsters are throttling you.

Numbers 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 one will be revealed on part 2 of this list.

Yugioh Top 10 Contest

Yugioh Cards Blog has many top 10 posts; I find top 10 posts are really cool because it not only helps people on that subject but describes the person writing it as well. That’s why, to start off 2011, I decided to have a Top 10 contest! It’s actually a pretty simple contest; all you have to do is choose a subject and make a top 10 list out of it. Your subject can be anything: normal monsters, OTK decks, counter traps, Frog archetype monsters, etc… Your list will be judged on these criteria:

Actuality (if Thousand-Eyes Idol is number in a Top 10 Monsters list, then something is wrong…)
Explanation (you’re explanation should be fluid and it should make me understand why you think this card deserves to be on the list)
Grammar (self-explanatory)
Creativeness (don’t just make a Top 10 Spells list, or a Top 10 Monsters list, be creative with your subject! How about a Top 10 Cards in Jaden’s Deck or something like that? Be creative!)
I can’t wait to see what kind of lists people come up with! The winner will be announced on Jan.30, good luck!

Yugioh Dark Armed Dragon VS Judgement Dragon

1. Dark Armed Dragon

Dark Armed Dragon is one of the strongest monsters in the game with 2800 attack points and a stellar effect. It is pretty easy to summon him as well, especially if you run a fiend deck. Dark Armed Dragon cannot be normal summoned or set, however if you have three dark monsters in your graveyard, you can special summon it. By removing one dark monster from your graveyard, DAD can destroy one card on the field. Sounds like a decent effect, right? However, if you run a Dark-Attributed/Fiend deck, DAD’s effect could nuke your opponent. By stocking up large sums of dark monsters in your grave, DAD could easily clear your opponent’s whole field and make space for direct attack!

Artwork: 6/10, Deck Adaptation (How useful it can be in various decks): 8/10, Effect: 8/10, Power: 9/10, Playability (In its respective deck): 9/10, Game Changer: 10/10. Overall, DAD gets a rating of 8.3/10 – B.

2. Judgement Dragon

Another incredible monster, Judgement Dragon puts D in Dragon. Not only does it look awesome, but everything about it is awesome as well. Unless you run a Lightsworn deck, Judgement is pretty much impossible to bring out. However, it still is the best support card a Lightsworn deck can have. Not only does JD have 3000 attacks points and 2600 defense points, it has a really good effect as well. It can only be special summoned by having four, different Lightsworns in your grave. You can pay 1000 life points to destroy all cards on the field, so unless your opponent can somehow defeat JD, it can end the duel in three turns (or less, depending on how much life points your foe has). The only negative side to JD’s effect is that you have to remove four cards from the top of your deck every turn! Still, it is a very powerful monster.

Artwork: 8/10, Deck Adaptation: 1/10, Effect: 10/10, Power: 10/10, Playability (in its respective deck): 8/10, Game Changer: 10/10. Overall, Judgement Dragon gets a rating of 7.8 – C+.

Victor: Dark Armed Dragon

And DAD is the winner, although it was pretty expected. The sole reason of Dark Armed Dragon’s victory is because it is a much versatile monster that can be useful in 90% of decks. Judgement Dragon however, cannot be of any help to a deck that doesn’t use Lightsworns so its Deck Adaptation rank tanked. You can apply the same theory to DAD too, “It won’t be of any help to a deck that doesn’t use three dark monsters or more.” That’s true, however a lot more people have dark monsters in their decks than Lightsworns. Effect wise though, Judgement Dragon outmatches DAD completely, but overall, DAD is the better monster!

I thought that Dark Creator would win since it appeared to be the more popular card however it placed last among the three. The Card of the Month: August is Mist Wurm! I’m pretty surprised it won, because it has a fairly simple effect. Well, this marks the last Card [...]

Gagagigo may be an old and forgotten monster, but it was the basis of one of my most popular contests in my blog. Though it doesn’t have an effect, Gagagigo still has 1850 attack so it’s pretty useful in some decks, especially reptilian decks. Gagagigo’s younger self, Gigobyte is one of the best cards to have in a Gravity deck. Because it’s a level one monster, it can be affected by Triangle Power thus making it a powerhouse in a Gravity deck. Gagagigo also has older forms known as Giga Gagagigo and Gogiga Gagagigo. Though it might not have a high efficiency rate, it has a lot of history and is a very significant Yugioh monster.

I have only received three combos, and even though the combo listed in this post is the best I have gotten, it is still horribly weak. There is still exactly a week left for this contest, and if one of you sends me a combo, there is a high possibility you will win this contest along with an ultra rare card.
