Upcoming Booster Pack – Generation Force

Comments: No Comments
Published on: July 9, 2011

There are lots of reasons to anticipate the arrival of Generation Force, the booster pack that has all duelists talking. There is of course, a new genre of monsters being released, known as Xyz monsters. However, there are several other reasons to be excited about Generation Force. For one, all duelists can relax for synchro monsters are still being manufactured; in fact Generation Force has very powerful syncrhos. Also, Generation Force will introduce several new archetypes and some of them have the potential to be top-tier. Here are three things that I have been the most enthusiastic about regarding the release of Generation Force:

1. Pain Painter – Tuner

Pain Painter is going to be overused in a zombie deck. It is a level two tuner, that’s name can be treated as Plaguespreader (allowing it to synchro summon monsters with Plaguespreader Zombie as a requirement). Its strongest effect is this though: it can make two zombie monsters on your side of the field level two monsters. It might seem like a simple effect, but, Pain Painter makes it so much easier to play Archfiend Zombie Skull. With 2500 attack points, AZS is an ace zombie synchro monster that makes sure faceup zombie monsters are not destroyed by card effects!

2. Steelswarm

The Steelswarm archetype has the potential to be one of the strongest archetypes in Yugioh. Steelswarm monsters take advantage of tribute summoning with their swarming capabilities. However, the Steelswarms monsters that are tribute summoned get powerful effects that can devastate opponents. For instance, Steelswarm Caller allows you to special summon a level four or lower Steelswarm monster when you tribute summon one. This swarming effect allows you to quickly tribute summon Steelswarm monsters. They are going to be a mighty deck, especially because they already have a good amount of support cards.

3. Number 39: Utopia

Okay, I love collecting duelists ace monsters (as I already have Dark Magician, Elemental Hero Neos, and Stardust Dragon) and Utopia will be an add-on to the list. Its a powerful monster that can be very easily summoned (have two level four monsters) and it can remove a Xyz material monster to negate an attack. So, it is fairly powerful as well.

New Booster Pack: Extreme Victory

Following the release of the Nordic Gods in the booster pack Storm of Ragnarok, the booster pack Extreme Victory that was released yesterday in TCG has lived well up to expectations. Though its cover monster, Junk Beserker, is not the strongest of monsters, the release of Antinomy’s cool Tech Genus cards make Extreme Victory one of the most exciting booster packs in the series. Let’s not forget that this pack also debuts Life Stream Dragon, a.k.a the “6th dragon”, as well as Aporia’s beast Meklord Astro Dragon Asterisk.

The Tech Genus monsters are really powerful when played correctly, as you can tell from the way that Antinomy really beat down Yusei when they dueled. Though not all of the Tech Genus monsters and support cards have been released in this pack, this archetype still has the potential really strong. The two crucial monsters that were released in this pack were the accel synchro monster T.G. Blade Blaster and the delta accel synchro monster T.G. Haldberd Cannon. Both monsters have great stats with 3300 attack and 2200 defense points a piece, but they have stellar effects as well (Blade Blaster, Haldberd Cannon). The Tech Genus monsters are going to be a force to be reckoned with as long as those cards aren’t banned!

Besides the T.G. monsters, the debut of Life Stream Dragon is very exhilarating as well. I was in awe when I heard that Life Stream Dragon had been revealed for its image had been online for ages, but once Blackwing Dragon had been introduced, I figured that was the end of Life Stream Dragon. When Life Stream Dragon is summoned, you have the option to make your life points 4000, which can be a huge game changer. Plus, any effect damage you take becomes zero and if Life Stream Dragon gets destroyed, you can remove an equip spell instead. All these monsters and new releases makes Extreme Victory a pack worth getting!

My Dark Armed Dragon Deck

Last month, I decided to create a dark monster deck that revolved around summoning Dark Armed Dragon and The Wicked Avatar. It was a decent deck, but I believed it had the potential to surpass my Infernity-Dark World deck. I knew in order for it to reach its maximum strength, I had to add more dark oriented spells and traps, add more swarm monsters, and replace Rainbow Dark Dragon with another trump card. Last week, after buying five Phantom Darkness booster packs and acquiring a super rare Dark Armed Dragon to be my ace, I received the proper additions to create my ultimate dark deck (obviously, there were a few forbidden cards in the deck, so it is only a deck for leisure duels).

The point of this deck is to quickly bring out Dark Armed Dragon through spells like Graceful Charity and then quickly swarm dark monsters in order to play The Wicked Avatar, then remove the monsters in my grave to summon Rainbow Dark Dragon. Due to The Wicked Avatar’s effect, my opponent would not be able to activate any spells or traps for two turns, allowing me to destroy them with my high powered monsters. Monsters like Witch of the Black Forest and Dark Grepher makes this a fast process. If my opponent was able to halt my strategy, I had cards such as Dark Necrophear, Relinquished, and Blast Sphere as back ups. Overall, I’d say this deck is Dark Armed Dragon Burn deck.

The only weakness this deck has is the weak spell and trap support. I don’t really need to utilize much spells or traps for my strategies, but it would still be useful if I had some in the scenario that both my plan a and b were halted, in which case I would have to really on my various dark monsters (Dark Crusader, Barrel Dragon). Otherwise though, I think this deck is good enough to take on a lot of decks out there, however, it is strategies like the ones I use in this deck that make many of these cards forbidden!

Do you guys have any suggested improvements I should make on this deck? If so, list them in your comments.

New Yugioh Booster Pack: Storm of Ragnarok

The new Yugioh booster pack, Storm of Ragnarok, was released four days ago. The Storm of Ragnarok features cards in the distorted timeline arc such as Stardust Shimmer, Zero Force, and the cover card of the pack; Odin, Father of the Aesir. The fierce ruler of Asgard has the ability to revive itself by removing a ‘Nordic Ascendant’ monster from play when destroyed. For the turn that it’s special summoned, Odin is unaffected by spell trap cards. Along with Odin, the other two (powerful) Nordic legends, Loki and Thor, are available in the pack as well!

The Storm of Ragnarok looks like an awesome booster pack, not only because of the release of the Nordic Gods, but of the loads of support it brings for new archetypes as well. The Legendary Samurai archetype gets a lot of support, as a semi-archetype known as the Legendary Six Samurai debut in this booster pack. Blackwings also get some good support and there as a powerful new addition to the Elemental Hero archetype as well (Elemental Hero Ice Edge)! Storm of Ragnarok will also be featured in the upcoming Yugioh video game, World Championships 2011: Over the Nexus.

Yugioh Starstrike Blast: The Arrival of the Cosmic Dragons!

The most striking thing about the upcoming booster Starstrike Blast (get it?) is not that the fact that it introduces more support for the new archetypes or more sycnhro-fusions. You see, with Starstrike Blast also comes the Cosmic Synchros, synchros who are summoned by tuning a lesser synchro with another monster. And guess what are the first two Cosmic Synchros duelists will be introduced to: Red Nova Dragon and Shooting Star Dragon, the ultimate forms of Red Dragon Archfiend and Stardust Dragon (respectively). This is why I believe Starstrike Blast will beat out Duelist Genesis and become the highest grossing booster pack in the third generation era.

Shooting Star Dragon is definitely the strongest form of Stardust Dragon, although the same cannot be said for Red Nova Dragon. Shooting Star Dragon has 3300 attack points, 2500 defense points, and three strong effects that can (each) be used once per turn.

Reveal the top 5 cards of your Deck. Shuffle them back in, and this card’s maximum number of attacks this turn is equal to the number of Tuner monsters revealed in Deck.
Negate the activation of an effect that would destroy a card(s) on the field, and destroy that card.
When your opponent’s monster declares an attack, you can select it, then remove this card from play and negate the attack. During the End Phase, Special Summon this card that was removed from play by this effect.
As you can see, Shooting Star Dragon is a destructive monster and quite possibly the strongest cover monster ever. In the anime, Majestic Star Dragon and Shooting Star Dragon share the role of ‘Yusei’s signature monster’ (although SSD is far better than MSD in real life).

Red Nova Dragon is extremely powerful monster as well. It has 3500 attack points, 3000 defense points, and some wicked effects. RND gains 500 attack points for every tuner in the graveyard (so really, it has 4500 attack points). It can’t destroyed by card effects and when your foe declares an attack, you discard RND from the field to negate the attack. However, you can summon it back on to the field at the end phase of that turn! Red Nova Dragon is a fantastic card, but it’s not really hands down better than Majestic Red Dragon.

I can’t wait to see Starstrike Blast in my nearby Walmart! I haven’t a booster pack for quite sometime but this one I definitely have to buy! The chance of being able to acquire a Cosmic Dragon is quite irresistible.

Weakest Yugioh Cards

Since we always talk about cards a duelist should have in a deck, why don’t we talk three, popular and legit cards, that you should never have in a deck. Here are three cards that instantly came into my mind, what do you think?

1. Elemental Hero Neo Bubbleman

Okay, first of all you have to go through numerous steps just to bring this weak monster out on the field; you have to remove Elemental Hero Bubbleman from your field and Metamorphosis. E-Hero Bubbleman is a decent card, but Metamorphosis is really good! You’re just throwing it away by playing Neo Bubbleman. Neo Bubbleman has a weak 800 attack points and 1200 defense points. “Maybe its effect is good!” Wrong, if a monster battles with N-Bubbleman it is destroyed at the battle phase. Yes that is a good effect IF you’re foe is actually stupid enough to attack with a strong monster; they will simply destroy N-Bubbleman with a fodder monster. Such a useless card…

2. Strike Ninja

Another joke of a card, Strike Ninja not only removes itself from the field, but takes two other monsters from the graveyard too! It is a helpful card for a D.D. deck, but useless otherwise.

3. Manju of the Ten Thousand Hands

Manju would have been a great monster to play five/six years ago (when ritual monsters were big) but now it’s just a waste of a card. It allows you to put one ritual monster or ritual card to your hand. Yeah, a big help for a population that is completely revolved around synchros…

Psychic Monsters

Psychic monsters are a pretty old monster type, however I have recently had an interest in them! Yesterday, I was going to get the new Mockingjay book at the library when I saw some guys dueling at the youth section of the library. One of the duelists was using a Blackwing deck (surprise, surprise) and the other was using a Psychic deck! The duel had just begun and they let me watch the match. I thought the Blackwing deck would just destroy the Psychic but it was a surprisingly close duel (with Blackwings being the victor). I’ve been fascinated with Psychic ever since yesterday!

Psychic are a cool archetype that focus on a variety of things such as swarming, burn damage, and especially life point manipulation. Because of their various strengths, Psychic monsters are very hard to predict and can cause havoc with their different effects (as I saw first hand in the duel against the Blackwings). A lot of Psychic monsters make the user take damage therefore it’s recommended that Psychic duelists have cards like Prime Material Dragon and Rainbow Life. Another good thing about Psychic monsters is that many of them are level four and below monsters, thus it’s easy to summon them and facilitate combos.

Psychics have a lot of good qualities about them, however my favorite aspect about the Psychics is their strong synchro monsters. Not only do Psychic monsters have strong synchros, they have a lot of them as well: Thought Ruler Archfiend, Hyper Psychic Blaster, Psychic Lifetrancer, Psychic Nightmare, Psychic Android, and then there are other other OCG synchros as well. Then, if you count Ultimate Axon Kicker and Hyper Pyschic Blaster A.M., there are A LOT of beatdown Psychic monsters.

Psychic monsters may not be the most popular monster type, and a Psychic deck may not be a Tier 1 deck, however Psychic monsters are still a type in development and I think that once they have enough support, they can be a deadly group of monsters. Even now, a full Psychic deck can compete with the best of them! I want to see a duel between Aliens and Psychics: Out of space creatures VS Mutants!

Emerging Archetypes, A Duelist Revolution!

With the TCG releases of Hidden Arsenal packs 1 and 2, we were introduced to several new archetypes such as Naturia, Flamevell, and Ice Barrier monsters. Recently, a new mainstream booster pack, the Duelist Revolution, was released as well and along with its release Duelist Revolution brought more support for these emerging archetypes. The Duelist Revolution actually did start a Duelist Revolution! After skimming through the spoiler list, I found a bunch of cards that would be really useful for any deck. Cards like Pot of Duality, Synchro Fusionist, and my favorite, Chivalry. Duelist Revolution is one of the strongest packs I have seen for a while. Plus, it has long-awaited support and additions for upcoming archetypes. Duelist Revolution has shaped so many emerging archetypes and it could lead to a whole new twist in Yugioh.

When I say whole new twist, I don’t mean a change in rules or play style. A majority of players are still old school, especially the older duelists. However, Duelist Revolution has helped turn semi-archetypes (Ice Barrier, Naturia, etc…) into full, actual archetypes with a good amount of cards and decent support. Now, due to Duelist Revolution, many of these archetypes are ready to be used in tournaments. Thus, duelists have the option to choose to use a different archetype out of the vast majority of new archetypes. They don’t have to use the same old Infernities, or Elemental Heroes anymore thanks to Duelist Revolution, which has improved so many new archetypes.

Out of the new archetypes in Yugioh, I feel that Naturia will be the strongest. Although some of their cards OCG, Naturia has a great balance of power and efficiency. They are one of the fastest decks out there, and unless their combos are quickly stopped, they will do serious damage. Naturias also have great monsters such as Naturia Barkion (OCG), Naturia Beast, and Naturia Bambooshoot who has a great ability to negate your opponent from playing spell or trap cards if it is summoned by tributing a Naturia monster. Ice Barriers, another emerging archetype, are another popular archetype. They focus mainly on field advantage, and then beating down the opponent. Some of my favorite Ice Barrier monsters include Brionac, Trishula, and General Grunard (OCG).

Duelist Revolution, I think, has brought a type of Golden Age in the modern, 3rd generation Yugioh timeline. It has introduced the world to MANY new archetypes. Duelist Revolution is a good booster pack overall as well. It has a great traps and spells, and a good set of monsters as well (especially the new, Dragon Draco-Equiste!). This is a booster pack I would recommend any player to buy, old school or new school alike.

Top 5 Yugioh Monster Archetypes Part 1

In Yugioh Cards Blog, the discussions about the strongest Yugioh archetypes have getting very popular. Therefore, I decided to write a post on the top 5 archetypes in Yugioh. Before I start, I want to remind you that these are based on TCG deck lists. Here is part 1 of the list.

5. Dark World

Strengths

Though they are heavily looked down upon, Dark World monsters are actually one of the best types of cards to use. They are, in my opinion, the more advanced versions of Blackwings. Dark World monsters revolve around the activation of effects after being discarded. For example; Beiige, Vanguard of the Dark World can be special summoned if it is discarded from your hand by a card effect. The Dark World monsters really punish mill archetypes, and other archetypes that like to discard cards from the foe’s hand; a popular archetype being the X-Sabers. Dark World is also a great swarming archetype especially with effect of Brron, Mad King of the Dark World. The Dark World archetype also goes great with the Infernity archetype, creating a nearly unbeatable deck (I would know, since I used a mixture of Dark World and Infernity and made it to nationals).

Weaknesses

The only weakness I noticed in a Dark World deck is that it is hard to function if you don’t draw a card discarder, such as a Morphing Jar. Unless you can activate their effects, Dark World monsters are pretty weak so a lot of the Dark World archetype is based on luck. Also, Dark World decks can be a bit predictable, so you need to have a strong extra deck.

4. Blackwings

Strengths

One of the best OTK decks around, Blackwing monsters are one of the, if not the most used archetype in Yugioh duels. With their versatility and vast swarming capabilities, Blackwings could create obstacles for your opponent early in the turn. Cards like Sirocco the Dawn also help out by improving the attack stat of other Blackwings. One of the most dangerous attributes about Blackwings is how quickly they can create an OTK. Because Blackwings swarm so much, they can quickly create OTK situations or quick-kill situations. The difficulty of preparing for those types of situations makes Blackwing monsters very deadly. Because of their swarming prowess, Blackwings also focus on summoning many synchro monsters.

Weaknesses

Blackwing monsters are a very one-dimensional archetype. Besides the fact they swarm to create OTK situations, they aren’t really capable of doing anything else. Plus, the fact they are all winged-beast, dark attribute monsters, means that you can easily defeat them with Tribe-Infecting virus or Consecrated Light. Also, because Blackwing decks focus on swarming synchros, cards like Gravity Bind make it very difficult for a Blackwing deck to function.

I hoped you guys like part 1 of the Top 5 Yugioh Deck Archetypes, tune in for my next post to see my 3rd and 4th entries, although they are pretty obvious!

Yugioh Special Edition Tin: Creating a Yugioh Synchro Deck

For a while now, I have been looking to start a synchro deck. Synchros are one of the, if not the most popular type monsters out in the Yugioh world, so why not create a proto-deck with them? Plus, I was sick and tired of dueling my friends with my regular deck (and winning of course), so I also wanted to make a Yugioh synchro deck for the creative aspect. So while I was in Walmart today, I bought a Yugioh Special Edition Tin. The tin came with three Duelist Pack Yusei 2, one Ancient Prophecy, and three holofoil cards. Though I didn’t find any synchro monsters, I still got really nice cards.
