End of Yugioh 5Ds Marks the Start of Yugioh Zexal

Episode 154 of Yugioh 5Ds marked the last 5Ds episode and it was possibly one of the best episodes of the series. In episode 154, also known as Shining Forth to the Future, the main characters all part ways and it shows how they are all doing in the future. It emphasizes friendship and bondage so it was a very sentimental yet feel-good episode. Now that Yugioh 5Ds is over, Konami is making a new series, Yugio Zexal. The first episode was released a few days ago and to tell you the truth, it didn’t look very good.

Yugioh Zexal revolves around a boy named Yuma who unlocks some sort of spirit from his dream world that helps him duel, similar to Yubel who later acts as an aid to Jaden. The show also introduces a new type of monsters known as exceed monsters; all of them are pretty easy to summon and some of them have stellar effects. Despite this introduction, Zexal looks pretty boring and the storyline is kind of repeating that of Yugioh and Yugioh 5Ds, where the duelists duel with some sort of spirit.

Though I criticized Yugioh 5Ds, which I enjoyed later or, when it was released, Yugioh Zexal just looks stupid. The characters look very hollow and there doesn’t seem to be an intense rivalry. Yes, there is a boy named Shark that Yuma forms a rivalry with but it just doesn’t seem nearly as intense as the rivalry between Yugi-Kaiba, Jaden-Zane, or Yusei-Jack.

Surprising Results of the ‘Your Favorite Synchro Monster’ Poll

If you guys haven’t noticed yet, I recently put up a new poll on Yugioh Cards Blog inquiring about people’s favorite synchro monsters. The results were quite surprisingly actually; most people checked Red Nova Dragon as their favorite synchro monster. Though it’s  a strong monster, I don’t understand why Red [...]

Exceed Monster Lockdown

Cards such as Gravity Bind and Level Limit Area – B do not not allow any monsters over level four from attacking. So I was thinking, couldn’t people use Exceed monsters to make those lockdowns broken? Here is my reasoning: Exceed monsters do not have levels, they have ranks. A rank is the average of the merger between two levels, so it is not qualified as a level. I’m not really familiar with a lot of Level Limit Area – B lockdowns but there are many Gravity Bind lockdowns, such as the Darkness Neosphere lockdown, that would be virtually unbreakable with Exceed monsters. Maybe that’s why Konami is making Exceed monsters a bit weaker than synchros, it’s because they add new aspects to the game like this one. What do you guys think?

Yugioh Junk Warrior VS. Elemental Hero Flame Wingman

I just watched the awesome Yugioh movie Bonds Beyond Time and I really wanted to do a monster card comparison between monsters from two of the characters. I decided to do a comparison on Junk Warrior and Elemental Hero Flame Wingman, two of the most clutch monsters owned by Yusei and Jaden respectively.

1. Junk Warrior

It’s easy to summon, strong, and has a great effect. It’s safe to say that Junk Warrior is a cool monster. Not to mention that he was the first card to be created in the 5Ds series! Junk Warrior is one of the best sidekicks a duelist can have with 2300 attack points and 1400 defense points Plus, when it’s synchro summoned, Junk Warrior gains attack equal to all the level two and lower monsters you control. A great effect if you need something going for you on offense! I also love Junk Warrior’s futuristic design as well!

Artwork: 7/10, Playability: 9/10, Effect: 7/10, Power: 8/10, Deck Adaptation: 10/10, Game Changer: 7/10. Junk Warrior gets an overall score of 8/10 – B-.

2. Elemental Hero Flame Wingman

Ah, whenever I look at Elemental Hero Flame Wingman, it brings back fond memories of the good old Yugioh GX days. Flame Wingman is another ferocious monster. With 2100 attack points, it not only is a powerful, easy-to-summon fusion monster, but it has a great effect too. Whenever Flame Wingman destroys a monster, your opponent loses life points equal to the destroyed monsters attack points, an effect that can be very clutch in a close duel. Oh, and have you seen it’s artwork? Phenomenal.

Artwork: 9/10, Playability: 8/10, Effect: 9/10, Power: 7/10, Deck Adaptation 7/10 (Elemental Hero decks aren’t as popular), Game Changer: 9/10. Elemental Hero Flame Wingman gets an overall score of 8.2/10.

As much as I like both monsters, Flame Wingman wins this overall battle. However, statistically speaking (Artwork is excluded), Junk Warrior wins 41/50 to Flame Wingman’s 40/50.

ZONE is Yusei?

I was reading the spoilers of the upcoming Yugioh 5Ds episodes, and when I reached Yugioh 5Ds episode 149: The Revived Hero, I was shocked at what I read. That spoiler says that ZONE tells Yusei, “I am Yusei Fudo.” What? This somewhat surprises me, somewhat doesn’t because in Yugioh 5Ds episode 144 when Aporia recounts his days in the destroyed world, he is encountered by someone who (coincidentally) looks exactly like Yusei. That turns out to be ZONE. What do you guys take out of this, is ZONE really Yusei, or is this all part of ZONE’s plan to destroy Yusei and restart the world? Or, if ZONE really is the future-version of Yusei, what spurned him to become mechanical and plan the destruction of the world?

Life Stream Dragon – The Sixth Dragon

For all of you guys who follow Yugioh 5Ds, be prepared to be shocked because tomorrow, on episode 143, the dragon we have all been anticipating to see will be revealed: Life Stream Dragon! Before Crow was revealed to be signer and Black Wing Dragon was revealed to be the “fifth dragon,” Life Stream Dragon had produced many cults because everyone that it was the fifth dragon, and due to its resemblance with Power Tool Dragon, they thought Leo was the fifth signer. Well, their guesses proved to be true as Leo is the sixth signer and bears the heart of the Crimson Dragon.

In the anime, Life Stream Dragon is created when the Crimson Dragon gives Leo the power to evolves= Power Tool Dragon, however, what do you think its summoning conditions will be in the actual Yugioh card game? My guess is there’s going to be card called “Ancient Evolution” or something along the lines of that, which allows you to sync Power Tool Dragon and any tuner to synchro summon Life Stream Dragon. Based on its name, I suspect Life Stream Dragon is going to have an awesome life point regeneration effect, probably something along the lines of when this monster is synchro summoned, the user gains life points equal to the attack points of the strongest monster on your opponent’s side of the field. When this monster destroys an opposing monster, your opponent loses life points equal to half the destroyed monster’s attack points and you gain those life points.

I was actually pretty surprised to hear Leo was a signer because in the anime, the legend says that there were only five signers. Maybe Leo and Luna count as one signer, who knows? Another question that’s nagging my mind about Life Stream Dragon is, after it fought with the Earthbound Gods, how did it become mechanical (Power Tool Dragon)? Hopefully those questions will be answered in the upcoming episodes. Either way, Life Stream Dragon is going to be one heck of a monster!

Who is the Worst Duelist In the Yugioh Anime?

The main message throughout the three seasons of Yugioh (Yu-Gi-Oh!, Yugioh GX, and Yugioh 5Ds), we have continuously been reminded that the key to victory is believing in the “heart of the cards.” Though that ideal would be completely useless in the real world, it seems to work for duelists in the anime, notably Yugi/Atem, Jaden, and Yussei, which is why those three are the best duelists in the anime. Obviously, there are strong duelists as well: Joey, Kaiba, Chazz, Syrus, Crow, Jack, etc… and to some extent, the “heart of the cards” ideal works for them too. Then we have the crappy duelists, protagonist characters characters that are affected by the HOTC ideal, but still are terrible duelists: Duke Devlin, Alexis, Leo, etc…

The best part about Yugioh is when you see strong duelists overcome difficult adversities and as a result, are overcome by sudden happiness and inspiration. Of course, seeing duelists get destroyed in a duel(s) is another great part Yugioh, for that brings the humorous aspect to the show, which gets me to my point. In your guys’ opinion, who is that one duelist that you feel great pleasure in seeing lose? That one duelist that you feel doesn’t even deserve to be called a duelist? In short, who is the worst duelist in Yugioh? For me, the answer is Leo, what about you guys (note: this has to be a legit duelist, Tea for example, doesn’t count as she isn’t a pure duelist)?

Yugioh Obelisk the Tormentor VS. The Winged Dragon of Ra

The ultimate battle of the celestial realm; Obelisk the Tormentor VS. The Winged Dragon of Ra! The two cards became so popular (despite being unusable) that they were turned into legal, deadly monsters. They won’t be a part of high-tiered decks, but they can still be mighty powerful if played. Which one is the mightiest however? Which God provides the easiest victory? Let us commence the War of Heaven! (Note: Slifer the Sky Dragon has not been released as a legal card, otherwise we would be comparing it as well!).

Yugioh Road Warrior VS. Junk Destroyer

Road Warrior

With 3000 attack points, it might only seem like a stat powerhouse at first, but Road Warrior actually as a really good ability. You see, once per turn it allows the user to special summon one level two or lower machine/warrior monster on to the field. That’s a great effect because it allows you to swarm tuners! Road Warrior gives you a lot of opportunities to create more synchro monsters. It is a really powerful monster, and though it shouldn’t be your ace, its one heck of a good sidekick.

Artwork: 7/10, Effect: 8/10, Deck Adaptation: 5/10, Power: 9/10, Game Changer: 8/10, Playability: 7/10. Overall, Road Warrior receives a score of 7.3/10 – C.

Junk Destroyer

Junk Destroyer is a cool card. Not only is its design cool but it is another one of Junk Synchron’s synchro transformations! Junk Destroyer was the card that helped Yusei Breo in the World Grand Prix as well. Junk Destroyer is a powerful 2600 attack point and 2500 defense point monster that can destroy cards in the field equivalent to the amount of non-tuners used to summon him. A pretty good effect if you have a deck with a high ratio of low-leveled monsters.

Artwork: 6/10, Effect: 7/10, Power: 8/10, Deck Adaptation: 5/10, Game Changer: 10/10, Playability: 7/10. Overall, Junk Destroyer gets a score off 7/10 – C-.

Alas, we have our winner for the day, Road Warrior! Their both great monsters but Road Warrior outs Junk Destroyer in terms of effect and power. Junk Destroyer’s effect can be a huge game changer however it is a bit difficult to tune numerous monsters and that’s why it got a deduction in the effect category.

In my last post, I talked about the strongest monster from the first set of Yugioh monster types. Part two will include the monsters from the second set of Yugioh monster types. If there is any disagreement my choice or choices, feel free to comment on what you would have picked differently and why it is better than my choice. (Note: The decisions were made based solely on stats, effect, and how much it would help in its type deck.)
