Card of the week 7/19/10: Dark Creator

yu-gi-oh-dark-creatorAfter days of wait, I finally located a local game store that hosted unoffical Yugioh duels on the weekends. Obviously, after having created my new Infernity Dark World deck, I had to go in order to test it out. My results were good, but not as good as I had imagined. I won nine duels, but lost two. My first loss had nothing to do with my foe’s deck; I just had a terrible hand. However, the second deck I lost to was actually a pretty nice one. It was similar to the high-leveled beatdown deck that Chris Harbour was describing in his comments. That Yugioh deck consisted of cards that made it easy to pull out strong monsters in order to completely tramp over defenses. It was primarily a dark attribute deck. Some of the cards used was Dark Necrofear, DAD, and Raviel the Lord of Phantasm. However, the card that completely destroyed me was Dark Creator.

Dark Creator is the evil spin-off of the Creator and it can special summon one Dark monster if you remove one from your graveyard. Dark Creator was basically the fascilator of 99% of that duelist’s combos. Though I could fend off some of the beatdown monsters, his tough offense made it difficult for me to create a counter-strategy. His most popular combinations were special summoning Dark Nephythys and using its effect to destroy my spells and traps. Dark Creator also allowed him to later special summon Raviel, which was able to easily win him the duel. Though I still didn’t have a great hand in this duel, his Dark Creator still did most of the damage to me. His Dark Revival deck, and especially the Dark Creator, earned my respect.

Card of the week 7/9/10: Mist Wurm

yu-gi-oh-mist-wurm1My first meeting with a Mist Wurm card was pretty hilarious! Towards the end of my trip to Nepal, my parents and I visited a common goods store to buy some items. In the store, there was a games section as well and it was stocked with merchandise of games like Beyblade, Pokemon, and even Yugioh! There was a special Yusei tin pack in the Yugioh section, and guess what the cover card was? Mist Wurm. However, it wasn’t just any Mist Wurm, it was a poorly made, fake version of the card. The Yugioh sticker at the bottom-right of the card was badly places, the title was in the wrong font, and even the holographic image looked more rough than bright. Though I was bummed out that I lost a chance to acquire a fierce synchro monster, that moment really made my day! Thus, I decided Mist Wurm should be my card of the week.

Mist Wurm is one of the most formidable and rare Yugio synchro monsters around. Though it could be a bit of a hassle to summon due to needing two non-tuner monsters, its stats and effect makes up for it. Not only does Mist Wurm have a dominating 2500 attack points, it also has a solid effect. When it is synchro summoned, you can return up to three cards your opponent controls. That basically guarantees a direct attack opportunity.

Card of the Month: June

Friday, July 9th, 2010

After two weeks of voting, the choice for the card of the month was unanimously Mystic Fortress Gol’gar! It has a great effect, high attack power, and is easy to summon due to being a synchro, so I’m not really surprised that it won.

Yugioh Monster Card Story Contest

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010

Every monster card has an incredible, legendary story. For instance, after it serves as Eria’s servant, Gagagigo enters D.D. Borderline and meets Freed, the Brave Wanderer. After going to war, he turns into Giga Gagagigo in order to gain more power. Even after his marvelous victory, it turns into Gogiga Gagagigo; the ultimate scourge of hate and darkness. There’s also the story of Gearfried and how he enclosed himself in steel armor so that his power could be contained. Monster stories turn Yugioh into a very interesting. See where this is going? The point of the Yugioh Monster Card Contest is to select a monster (not the ones I used above) and by using cards it’s drawn in, create a story about it. I think this is the most creative contest I have thought of, so therefore I will also have my own entry. The winner of this contest gets an Ultra Rare Hino-Kage Tsuchi and he/she gets their deck posted online for useful editing tips. The entry must be 4-7 sentences long and must include the cards used in the story (TCG and OCG allowed). The deadline for entry posts is June 30. Good luck, and I hope to be entertained by your posts!

P.S. - My story will be about Warrior Dai Grepher so you can’t use him for yours!

Card of the week 6/16/10: Non-Aggression Area

Yu-Gi-Oh-Non-Aggression-AreaNon-Aggression Area was a trap card that I found while researching some anti-swarm Yugioh decks. Though I’ve had four of these traps in my collection, I’d never even bothered to read its effect: As long you as discard a card during your standby phase, your opponent cannot normal, set, or special summon any monsters in their following turn. Non-Aggression Area is an amazing defensive card! It could create wide-open attacks against your opponent! Non-Aggression Area is also a great card to fight swarm decks like the Blackwings or X-Sabers. Non-Aggression Area is also put to good use in a Dark World deck, where a majority of monster effects are facilitated by discarding a card(s). NAA is an awesome, easy-to-find, defensive trap card! It is also a nice card to have in an Infernity deck for it can clear the field for an OTK.

Yugioh Synchro Monster Contest

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

Everyone loves to be creative, youths especially. One of my favorite creative aspects of Yugioh is the whole of idea of a synchro monster. You tune monsters together and sometimes that synchro ends up being a more powerful version of the tuner itself (for example Junk Synchron and Junk Warrior). So I decided that I would again test the creativity of my readers, and use the whole idea of specific synchro summoning and turn into a contest.

Contest goals:

Using real Yugioh cards, create a specific synchro scenario. A level four or lower monster will be you tuner. One or two monsters will be your tuning support, and a seven star or higher monster will be your final synchro. Again, you are creating a synchro scenario out or REAL Yugioh monsters. Plus, your tuner doesn’t actually have to be a tuner, to elaborate, you could have a Red Eyes B. Chick be a tuner; it doesn’t have to be a real tuner such as Junk Synchron. At the same time, your synchro monster doesn’t have to actuallybe a synchro monster. The most creative, impressive, and sensible/resembling tuner-synchro combination will win.

Remember-The levels of your tuner and your monster(s) must be equivalent to the level of your synchro, just like in a duel.

So to break it down for you:

  1. Out of the hundreds and hundreds of Yugioh monsters released, choose any four-star or lower monster. That monster will be your tuner for the contest.
  2. Choose a level seven or higher monster. That will be your synchro monster.
  3. Choose one or two monster that would be sensible to tune with your tuner in order to resemble your synchro. To elaborate, if your tuner is Red Eyes B. Chick, and you want your synchro monster to be Red Eyes ZombieDragon, it wouldn’t be sensible to have a Beaver and a Celtic Guardian as your tuning monsters. That combination would NOT resemble Red Darkness Dragon. What could be a nice combination is having a Curse of Dragon and a Skull Servant to go along with Red Eyes B. Chick

I hope you all understand the goal and rules of this contest. I can’t wait to see the final products! The deadline for applicants will be April 5th. Go!

The 1st Birthday For My Yugioh Blog

Saturday, December 26th, 2009

Can you believe it? It has almost been one year since I wrote my first post in this Yugioh Cards Blog. Though there was a lot of controversy and arguing between my readers and I, it is because of them my blog has become a prominent site in the Yugioh world. This year, I had 70,000 views from around the world and my Google page rank rocketed from 0 to 2! Though my blog has been doing well, I want to further improve it; I want 100,000 views instead of 70,000! I want a four page rank instead of a two! So I need advice from the only people who know my blog better than myself, my readers.

  • What things about my Yugioh blog did you guys like?
  • What things about my Yugioh blog didn’t you like?
  • What things should I continue in my blog?
  • Should I have more/less contests?

I would love it if you guys would think about some these questions and answer them. It is through only your feedback that I can improve my Yugioh blog. After all, it is you guys I write for! Also, my next post will be a list of the best posts/moments of my Yugioh blog. So thanks for the great year guys! With your help, next year, my Yugioh blog will be even cooler!

Yugioh Card Maker Cards

Saturday, November 21st, 2009

Though it was a couple of posts ago, I started the third contest for Yugioh Cards Blog. The contest revolved around Yugioh Card Maker. I recieved some okay creations, however the creation I going to talk to you about today is very well thought and realistic. I will show you two Yugioh monster cards created by Frank MTF.

When I first saw Frank’s monsters, I was very surprised because the picture of his monsters look like an image that would be on an official Yugioh card.  So, good job on your picture choice Frank! Plus, one of his cards, Liquid Guard, has an ability that can make pretty good combo with 5-6 leveled water monsters and his other monster, Cloud Guard. Though it is a helpful effect, I recommend that you strengthen Liquid Guard a bit. I think it should be able to stay the whole duel rather than  be destroyed on the turn it’s summoned. Same thing with Cloud Guard. Yes it does have 2000 atk points, however that isn’t as much as let’s say, Goblin Attack Force (2300) or Giant Orc (2200). So instead having it lose 500 atk points a turn, you could change its effect into something like discarding a card a turn or losing 200 life points a turn.

So far, Frank’s cards are in the lead for the grand prize, and second place is Yugioh fan’s cards. However, if morfowt is able to find pictures for his two cards, he will climb to first place. So good luck guys, you have one week left!

Yu-Gi-Oh Cardmaker: Your Own Yu-Gi-Oh Cards!

Saturday, September 19th, 2009

Though it has been out for a couple of years, Yu-Gi-Oh! Cardmaker is one of the coolest Yugioh websites on the web. You do exaclty what the card says; create cards. Any card you want! Whether they’re funky giraffes or hobos dressed in a karate suit, any card you want to create you can do it on this website. Plus you can make a fantasy deck as well. Simply save the image on to your “My Pictures” page and give a name for your deck.

Yugioh Cardmaker gives creators a lot of settings to alter. You can write your name on the card rather than having Tazuki Kakahsi’s name marked on it. You can make it a synchro monster or a divine monster and you can put in picture you like as the card’s image! I have a Cardmaker account as well. I will show you a card I made as an example:

createcardphp

The Angel Who Gave, I know, it’s a very cheesy name. It’s a fairy monster with 2000 attack and defense points. My friends said that its effect is tremendous: This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card can only be Special Summoned by the effect of Path of Light (a different card I made). When this card is Special Summoned successfully destroy all dark monsters, fiends, zombies, and spellcasters on the field. This card gains 800 atk and def for each monster destroyed by this effect. I know it’s a very incredibly strong, unrealistic effect, but I was obsessed in creating strong monsters at the time.

This is such a cool website! You get to create your own card; your own monsters, your spells and traps! You can print your cards and have an “imaginary” duel with your friends! Yugioh Cardmaker is ineed, the best Yugioh website!
